Chart House Is Gone. 1700 Harbor Boulevard Already Has Its Next Act

"The idea came from a bar in New Orleans that had a carousel." That is how Jeremy Casilli explained the rotating dining platform at Drift to New Jersey Monthly in November 2025. The platform carries 24 diners and takes an hour to make one full turn, so every seat on it gets time facing Midtown. The bar in that same room sits where Houlihan's kitchen used to be.

That detail explains what happened this spring better than the closing notice did. In May 2026, Chart House closed abruptly after decades at Lincoln Harbor. It was one of Hudson County's best-known special-occasion restaurants. For anyone who had booked birthdays, anniversaries and out-of-town visitors there for years, it looked like the waterfront had lost its anchor. Weehawken's shoreline has a track record, though. Its best dining addresses get rebuilt rather than abandoned, and the building at 1700 Harbor Boulevard is already following that pattern.

The Same Owner, a Different Sign

The Chart House building isn't on the open market. Landry's owns both Chart House and Mastro's Steakhouse, and the plan is a full renovation followed by a reopening as Mastro's. According to Jersey Digs, it will be the first New Jersey location for a brand that runs about 20 restaurants nationwide. Mastro's wants the Harbor Boulevard location "up and running during 2027." No opening date has been announced. Mastro's own website still shows the Weehawken location as coming soon.

The new concept will feel different from the old one. Mastro's serves USDA Prime steaks wet-aged for 28 days, cooks them in a 1,500-degree broiler and brings them out on 450-degree plates. The menu also includes a raw bar, sushi and the chain's signature warm butter cake. Every Mastro's has nightly live music, and Weehawken will too. NJ.com reported that the dress code discourages overly casual clothing and encourages collared shirts and sport coats for men. Jersey Digs noted that the address offers panoramic, unobstructed views of Midtown, so the view that made Chart House a celebration spot stays with the building.

A Shoreline That Reuses Its Rooms

The Chart House handoff is the latest in a series. Every major skyline-facing restaurant space along Harbor Boulevard has been reinvented in place at least once.

Address What was there What's there now What's next
1700 Harbor Blvd Chart House, for decades, until May 2026 Closed for renovation Mastro's Steakhouse, targeted for 2027
1200 Harbor Blvd Houlihan's, from the 1980s until late 2019 Drift, opened November 2024 Operating
1200 Harbor Blvd, northern storefront Proposed for Blu Alehouse in 2019 Blu on the Hudson, opened 2023 Operating
500 Harbor Blvd Beneci's Cucina D'Italia in the Sheraton Same restaurant, new menu in September 2026 Operating

The 1200 Harbor Boulevard row shows how long a reinvention can take. Houlihan's closed in late 2019 and Drift opened on November 13, 2024. That's a five-year gap. Next door, a 2019 Jersey Digs report had Blu Alehouse proposed for the building's northern storefront, and Blu on the Hudson opened at the address in 2023. Compared with those timelines, Mastro's goal of opening within about a year of Chart House closing is fast. It helps that the owner never changed.

Lincoln Harbor While 1700 Is Dark

The Chart House building is closed, but Lincoln Harbor still has plenty of skyline tables, and several of them have changed recently.

Drift is the most theatrical room on the strip. Vanessa Deleon Associates designed the 17,000-square-foot interior, which includes rippled stainless-steel arches, olive trees and three-dimensional tile along the bar. Out front, illuminated life-size sculptures of Hamilton and Burr point back to Weehawken's most famous history. Chef Bryan Noury has worked at Café Boulud, Le Bernardin and Madre. His menu covers sushi, house-made pastas, heritage chicken, a raw bar and prime skirt, filet and NY strip. New Jersey Monthly reported a $28 three-course weekday lunch prix fixe in its November 2025 review. Reservations are on Drift's site.

Blu on the Hudson shares the 1200 Harbor Boulevard address as a separate restaurant next door. Jersey Digs described Drift as opening right beside it. Blu calls itself its group's flagship and serves contemporary American food built around steak, seafood, sushi and house-made pasta. According to Blu's own page, dinner runs nightly from 5 p.m., brunch is Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m., and social hour is weekdays from 4 to 6 p.m. NJBIZ's June 2026 roundup of New Jersey Wine Spectator award winners listed both Blu and Drift, so one Weehawken address now holds two award-recognized wine programs.

Beneci's Cucina D'Italia is the clearest current example of a restaurant reinventing itself without moving. It sits inside the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor at 500 Harbor Boulevard, looks out over Weehawken Cove, Hoboken and the Manhattan skyline, and is open to diners who aren't staying at the hotel. In mid-September 2026, Jersey Bites reported that a new lunch and dinner menu had just launched. The goal, according to Director of Sales and Events Jonathan Masilo, is to lean further into a classic New Jersey Italian restaurant experience. The new menu includes:

  • Whipped Ricotta with red chili flakes, mint, honey and sourdough
  • A Pasta Flight with your choice of three from Bolognese, Penne alla Vodka, Fettuccine Alfredo and Mezzi Rigatoni al Pesto
  • Chicken Parmigiana with Linguine
  • House-made pizzas, including Spicy Calabrese and Adriatico
  • Brussels sprouts finished with balsamic

The NY Waterway ferry is steps from the hotel, so Beneci's is an easy dinner to pair with a trip across the river.

Ruth's Chris Steak House at 1000 Harbor Boulevard covers the prime steak niche until Mastro's opens. It's hosting a Caymus TasteMaker dinner from October 12 to 23, 2026. The multi-course menu includes lobster bisque, filet and chocolate crème brûlée.

North Along the Water, and Up the Cliff

Past Lincoln Harbor, the skyline dining continues north toward Port Imperial, and one option sits on the Palisades above it:

  1. Molos, 1 Pershing Circle. A Greek and Mediterranean seafood restaurant whose second-floor dining room overlooks the skyline. Its menu was updated September 4, 2026, and includes raw-bar seafood, whole fish, seafood orzo and lamb chops.
  2. NoHu Rooftop Bar & Restaurant, at the Envue hotel on Port Imperial Boulevard. The hotel describes daily dinner-and-drinks service with skyline views. The menu was updated September 1, 2026, and includes agave-ginger salmon, steak frites and short-rib empanadas.
  3. The Highwood, 500 Avenue at Port Imperial. Elevated American food with a waterfront patio and Manhattan views. Its seasonal menu last fall included soft-baked pretzels and bratwurst with sauerkraut.
  4. Faubourg, 1100 Avenue at Port Imperial. A French brasserie that was still booking holiday brunches this spring.
  5. Charrito's, 974 Boulevard East. Mexican and Oaxacan cooking: tacos, enchiladas and seafood, with a panoramic Manhattan view from the cliff instead of the water's edge.

Before Dinner, on the Same Stretch

October on Lincoln Harbor isn't only about dinner reservations. The Weehawken Farmers Market sets up at Lincoln Harbor Park, 628 Harbor Boulevard, every Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. through November 18, so a midweek market stop and an early table on the same block are both on the calendar for about six more weeks. Farther along the water, Weehawken Recreation's Trunk or Treat and Halloween Parade starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, at Waterfront Park. It's open to kids ages 1 to 12, and the rain location is the Weehawken High School gym.

At Alena Ciccarelli Properties, we follow Harbor Boulevard's addresses the way we follow its listings, because the restaurants that open on a block shape what living near it feels like. If your home looks out over this stretch of the Hudson and you're curious how the view from your windows is valued in today's market, Arrange a Viewing with us and we'll walk you through it.
